Remembering Forgotten Memories

Over the last 25+ years, I've had to relocate. First because of active-duty USAF. Then in the pursuit of opportunity. What this meant was that I ended up collecting boxes. It was pointless to unpack everything except the items of daily use. The undercurrent became this: when I finally had my forever home, I would truly unpack and settle in. Get rooted.

That moment came in the summer of 2025, when I moved to DC.

And so it happened that when I moved to DC, without having pre-thought this, that I decided that there were too many boxes, and I no longer remembered what was in them. A difficult decision was required because I had to put some things in storage.

This activity was not a simple inventory. I came upon a three-option decision point for each item I unboxed. Is it useful? Does it have sentimental value? If neither was true, that it had to be discarded. So, I threw out quite a few items. However, this site survey reminded me of events of my life I had forgotten. Such as a math notebook from high school. Or the schematics of an early prototype paper shredder from back in 1995. And came two boxes of memories. Some letters I had kept. And, a box of Hi8 cassette tapes circa. 2004.
